Most teachers choose the profession because of their passion. More than 70% of teachers reported they feel stressed. Stress is an inevitable part of teaching. Let’s discuss some methods to reduce stress in the classroom.

Arrive early at school

Yeah, it’s a simple but effective technique. Reaching early gives you enough time to prepare for the lessons. This free time will help you to recharge with energy.

Arriving on time in the classroom gives you an upper hand in maintaining discipline. You may have noticed that if the teacher didn’t reach the classroom on time, Then in those few minutes, students gets more restless, and after that teacher had difficulty maintaining discipline after arriving late.

Prepare night before

Plan your lessons one day before the class. Teachers often feel stressed when things don’t go as planned in the classroom. Better planning can be helpful in avoiding this situation. Teacher should have an idea of how to start and end the lesson. You can add interactive activities in between lessons.

Good preparation will help you to reduce unexpected stress.

Taking Deep breaths

It’s a quick recovery technique from stress. You can feel stress in your body, Which can be reduced by taking deep breaths.

For this, you need to realize the body’s symptoms of stress. Just stop for while, and focus on breathing; take a long deep breath and exhales slowly. Repeat it 3-4 times. This will cause you just 1-2 minutes, but a highly effective method for reducing stress.

Taking break

School systems are arranged with class hours and intervals. Always remember break is not only for students but also for teachers too.

You should step out of the classroom for the break. This small atmosphere change is good for you. Take a little walk during break and have a chit-chat with your colleagues.

Stay hydrated

It’s another simple method to reduce stress. Stay hydrated in the classroom. Teachers should also carry a water bottle with them into the classrooms. Feel free to drink water in the classroom. Staying hydrated will help you to stay more focused in the lessons.

Laugh

To reduce stress, a peaceful, positive atmosphere in the classroom. Laughing is good therapy for stress. Smiling activates more brain cells and this helps children to learn faster. Also help teachers to remain calm during the classes, who don’t like a laughing environment.

Talk with colleagues

Talk with your colleagues, and tell them about your stress, workload burnout. You may have many friends, but you need someone within the same environment to talk about your stress: because they are the ones who can relate to it. For others it’s just your story, but for colleagues, it’s their own story too, so you get a good listener.

These are only some ways to control stress in the classroom. It’s all about realizing that you are feeling stressed. Just stop for a second before reacting, think for a little bit and act accordingly.

Stress is an inevitable part of teaching, it’s all about how you handle it, don’t get too involved, pause, reflect, and relax.
